Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and continue into this evening. Some of these thunderstorms may be severe. Damaging winds in excess of 70 mph and possible tornadoes will be the primary severe threats. The greatest threat of tornadoes will be across northwest Illinois, along and west of the Fox Valley. Locally heavy rainfall will accompany these thunderstorms, and this may result in some instances of flooding, particularly in low lying areas.
